We have replaced it with our cache, approx near where the old one was supposed to be.
The Romanic church Santa Maria or Chiesa Vecchia (Old Church), wonderfully decorated with frescos of the XVIth century, rises on the top of a slope facing the lake, and it is part of Belgirate old town centre, with its typical labyrinth of narrow paths and beautiful glimpses of gardens.
You can only reach the Chiesa Vecchia by climbing a short pebble staircase.

Arona - Villa Ponti
Googlemap coordinates:45° 45′ 44.455″ N 8° 33′ 28.201″ E
Magnetic Cache by Raviteam
Hint: “4by4”
Villa Ponti is a splendid 18th century villa, located in the old town centre of Arona, not far from the lakefront. The garden boasts a fountain inspired by baroque models encircled by beech trees and silver cedars while magnolias and typical lacustrine vegetation surround the house. The garden has a fountain inspired by Baroque models, surrounded by beech trees, atlas cedars, and magnolias. Bartolomeo Pertossi, a wealthy Flemish merchant and friend of Napoleon I whom he visited several times after his return from the Egyptian Campaign, had the villa built around 1760 on the bastions of the Rocca (Fortress). Villa Ponti is the house where Gian Giacomo Ponti, student of Thomas Edison and professor of electronics at the Politecnico in Torino, was born. The manor still has its 18th century core, but in many areas it has been revamped, especially during the first decades of the 20th century. At the beginning of the last century, the garden, characterized by tall beech trees and atlas cedars and by vegetation typical from the lake area - magnolias, azaleas, and rhododendrons - was also redesigned.

‘’Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso’’ is a small monastic complex of the fourteenth century built on a ridge overlooking the Lake Maggiore.
The monastery of Santa Caterina del Sasso served as a refuge for hermits, but today it is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the lake. Despite its remote position, it is possible to get to the monastery from both land and water.
Some of the frescoes that adorn the interior of the monastery date back to the 19th century. The complex includes the Church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, and two monastic buildings.
In 1977 in the monastery they filmed some scenes from the film "The Bishop’s House" by famous Italian director Dino Risi, and in 1989 it appeared in the film "Promessi Sposi" by Salvatore Nocita – the film is based on Alessandro Manzoni’s novel.
In 1914, the monastery was declared a national monument, and in 1970 it was purchased by the provincial government of Varese, which initiated the restoration works.
Now you can get to Santa Caterina del Sasso by climbing down the long winding stairs or by taking the elevator built in 2010. You can also reach the place by ferry, which docks at the local Marina.

The Rocca Borromeo di Angera, or Rocca d'Angera, also called Borromeo Castle, is a castle that stands on the lakeside hilltop in the limits of the town of Angera in the Province of Varese on the Southern shores of Lago Maggiore. It is visible from across the lake from Arona, where originally stood another castle formerly owned by the Borromeo family.
Before 1227, the castle belonged to the Della Torre family, who lost the possession to the Visconti after the Battle of Desio (1277). In 1449, it passed into the ownership of the Borromeo family. It once belonged to the Visconti family, beginning with Bernabò Visconti and his wife, Beatrice della Scala, but it was purchased by the Borromeo family that expanded and refurbished the castle over the centuries. It still belongs to the Borromeo family. It is best known for its Hall of Justice (Sala di Giustizia) which still contains its original late 13th century fresco depicting the victory of Ottone Visconti, archbishop of Milan, at the Battle of Desio. The castle was severely damage during the second world war.
The castle also contains the Doll Museum (Museo della Bambola), founded in 1988 by the wish of Princess Bona Borromeo Arese, which displays over a thousand dolls made between the 18th century and the present days.
